چکیده

Effect of proton irradiation on poly~vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene! 56/44 mol % copolymer has been studied using a Mach–Zehnder heterodyne interferometer, polarization hysteresis loop and dielectric constant measurements. The electrical-field-induced strain response of the copolymer after proton bombardment follows a quadratic electrostriction relationship. The electrostrictive coefficient at 5 kHz is similar to that obtained with a bimorph-based strain sensor, but at a much lower electric field. The polarization hysteresis after proton irradiation is reduced considerably and the dielectric constant exhibits typical relaxor behavior, which is suggested as the cause of the observed results. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1715151#

Structural evolution and dielectric relaxation behavior of electron-irradiated poly„vinylidene fluoride–trifluoroethylene... 80Õ20 mol% copolymers

The effect of high-energy electron irradiation on poly~vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene! 80/20 mol % copolymers has been studied in a broad dose ranging from 0 to 120 Mrad. It was found that the copolymers transformed from a normal ferroelectric to a relaxor ferroelectric phase ~RFE! at high electron doses. For copolymers irradiated at the dose above 90 Mrad, they exhibited typical dielect...

Adsorbate/absorbate interactions with organic ferroelectric polymers

We discuss the interactions of adsorbates with the organic ferroelectric copolymer poly(vinylidene fluoride (PVDF)–trifluoroethylene (TrFE)). Range of molecular adsorbates is discussed from the smaller polar molecules like water, which is small enough to both adsorb and absorb, to the larger macrocyclic metal–organic metal phthalocyanines. The changes in local dipole orientation may affect the ...

Revisiting the δ-phase of poly(vinylidene fluoride) for solution-processed ferroelectric thin films.

Ferroelectric poly(vinylidene-fluoride) (PVDF) has, in the past, been proposed as an ideal candidate for data storage applications as it exhibits a bistable, remanent, polarization that can repeatedly be switched by an electric field. However, fabrication of smooth ferroelectric PVDF thin films, as required for microelectronic applications, is a long-standing problem. At present, the copolymer ...

Ferroelectric Properties and Polarization Switching Kinetic of Poly (vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) Copolymer

The discovery of the piezoelectric properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) by Kawai [Kawai, 1969], and the study of its pyroelectric and nonlinear optical properties [Bergman et al., 1971; Glass, 1971] led to the discovery of its ferroelectric properties in the early 1970s. Since that time, considerable development and progress have been made on both materials and devices based on PVDF. ...
